The 12 Cheapest DHSc Degree Programs, Ranked by Published Tuition

#1 Score 55.4

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania

Doctorate of Health Science (D.H.Sc.) · East Stroudsburg, PA · Public

The lowest published graduate tuition on the site, and the clearest example of why this column needs reading carefully. East Stroudsburg is a public university, which is where the price comes from, and it is also the one program here delivered on campus rather than online, running nine terms to a full dissertation.

Old Dominion University

Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) · Norfolk, VA · Public

The strongest combination of price and clarity here. Old Dominion is public, publishes among the lowest graduate tuition of anything on this site, and unlike most cheap options tells you exactly what you are buying: 14 courses of three credits, 42 hours, three years, entirely online. Cheap and vague is common on this page; cheap and specific is not.

Radford University

Doctor of Health Sciences (D.H.Sc.) · Radford, VA · Public

Public, and priced like it, with published graduate tuition among the lowest on this site. Unlike most cheap options here you can also build the total: 42 credit hours across seven semesters, two courses at a time, ending in an applied scholarly capstone. Ask the department which capstone size applies, since Radford's pages give both 9 credits and 6, and apply early in the cycle, because it fills its cohorts.

Indiana State University

Doctor of Health Science in Healthcare Leadership (DHSc) · Terre Haute, IN · Public

Public tuition attached to a programme that is also fully remote with no required campus visits and no dissertation. Of the cheap options here it asks the least of your calendar as well as your wallet, with five start dates a year on eight or sixteen week terms. The structure is 30 credits of core plus a 7-credit scholarly experience and a concentration.

Purdue University Global

Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) · West Lafayette, IN · Public

Priced within a few hundred dollars of the public options despite being private, and the transfer policy stretches that further: up to 28 elective credits carried in from your master's is tuition never paid. Purdue Global also removes the hidden cost that catches people on this page, stating that every course is online with no residency requirement, so the published figure is close to the real one.

Touro University Worldwide

Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) · Los Alamitos, CA · Private

Inexpensive for a private university, at 48 credits with a published two-year completion, so the annual figure and the length point the same way rather than fighting each other. The cost of entry is academic rather than financial: a master's and a cumulative 3.4, the highest published GPA floor on this site, plus two references and a doctoral entrance essay.

Liberty University

Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) · Lynchburg, VA · Private

A low annual rate attached to the second longest degree here at 60 credit hours, which is exactly the case this page exists to warn about. What rescues the arithmetic is the transfer policy: up to half the degree can come from credits you already hold.

Lenoir-Rhyne University

Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) · Hickory, NC · Private

Mid-priced among the private universities here, at 48 credit hours ending in an applied research project. Lenoir-Rhyne publishes enough to compare on cost, which several cheaper programmes on this page do not. The open question is the format: the programme is described as combining online learning with a traditional residential experience, and travel is a cost this page cannot show you.

University of Bridgeport

Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) · Bridgeport, CT · Private

Middle of this page on price, and the only programme on it ending in a genuine dissertation with a committee advisor. If you want research training rather than an applied project, this is where that requirement and the affordable end of the market overlap. Three start dates a year, all coursework online, three concentrations, and it is not open to international students.

University of Indianapolis

Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) · Indianapolis, IN · Private

Near the top of this page's range, and the price comes with a dissertation and a required on-campus session in year two. It qualifies as affordable at all only because DHSc pricing runs so much higher above it, which tells you how wide the field is.

Nova Southeastern University

Doctor of Health Science (D.H.Sc.) · Fort Lauderdale, FL · Private

Not the cheapest, but the figure comes attached to unusually complete information: 46 credit hours, three years at standard pace, four concentrations, four start dates and a stated seven-year limit. You can build a real total from what Nova publishes, which is rarer on this page than it should be. Budget separately for the one-week institute, attended twice.

The top of this page's range, and what the money buys is choice: 14 concentration tracks, more than any other programme on the site, across 48 credits and 16 courses. If one of those tracks is the specialism you want, no cheaper programme here offers it. If none of them is, the core content is broadly what the rest of this page teaches for less.

What You Need to Know About the Most Affordable DHSc Degree Programs

The pattern in this list is not subtle: the cheapest programs are public universities, and there are only a handful of them offering this degree. Below the public tier, the price gaps between private programs are large and do not track anything a reader would recognise as quality.

The trap on this page is the figure itself. This is an annual institutional rate, and a DHSc is not an annual purchase. A low rate attached to a 60 or 70 credit degree can cost more in total than a higher rate attached to a 35 credit one, and two programs on this list are exactly that shape. Read the tuition column and the credits column together or do not read either.

The other thing that moves the real number is transfer credit, which no tuition table shows. Liberty will take up to half the degree from work you already hold. Purdue Global will take up to 28 elective credits. Nova will take eight. For a candidate with a recent, relevant master's, that policy is worth more than several thousand dollars of rate difference.

How much of the bill you can borrow is unsettled, because a federal judge tossed out the Education Department's narrow definition of a professional degree, and that classification is what decides whether a health doctorate student can borrow $50,000 a year or $20,500.

Set the annual rate against what the work pays, since medical and health services managers earn a median $123,860 a year in the occupation most DHSc graduates are aiming at, and federal projections put its growth through 2034 at much faster than average.
