What "Online" Actually Means in a DHSc Degree Program
Every program on this page is delivered online, and for 17 of them that is the whole
story: you never travel. For the other 5 it is not. Read the format line
before you compare prices, because a required residency turns into flights, a hotel and time off
work, and none of that appears in the tuition figure you were comparing.
The other thing worth checking is session length. Touro runs eight-week sessions with six starts a
year, which is the loosest calendar here and lets you stop and restart around a busy quarter at
work. MCPHS runs Fall and Spring starts only, so missing a deadline costs you half a year. For a
student fitting a doctorate around a clinical job, that difference is worth more than a few
hundred dollars a credit.

Radford University
Doctor of Health Sciences (D.H.Sc.) · Radford, VA · Public
Seven sequential semesters at two courses each, delivered 100% online, which is the most evenly paced calendar published here. Nothing is front-loaded and no term is heavier than the last, so the commitment you sign up for in semester one is the same one you are carrying in semester seven. Radford fills its cohorts, so the practical constraint is applying early rather than fitting the study around your job.
Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) · Norfolk, VA · Public
Fourteen courses of exactly three credits, spread evenly over three years, every one online. Old Dominion publishes the most regular schedule of anything here: no term is heavier than the last, so the hours and the cost you commit to in year one are the same ones you are carrying in year three. For planning a doctorate around a clinical rota three years out, that predictability is the feature.
Doctor of Health Science in Healthcare Leadership (DHSc) · Terre Haute, IN · Public
Five start dates a year across eight and sixteen week terms, which is the second loosest calendar on this site and the practical reason to pick Indiana State over a cheaper rival with two intakes. Switching term length mid-degree lets you slow down for a bad quarter at work without transferring anywhere or losing a cohort. Indiana State also confirms in writing that on-campus visits are not required, and the whole thing runs through Indiana State Online at public-university rates.

Chatham University
Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) · Pittsburgh, PA · Private
Fall entry only, the narrowest intake on this page, run as four or five part-time terms entirely online. What you get for accepting one shot a year is the fastest published finish anywhere here, 16 to 20 months, in small interprofessional cohorts with close faculty mentoring. In a programme that short, the mentoring matters more than it would over four years because there is less time to find your feet.

MCPHS University
Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) · Boston, MA · Private
Fall and Spring entry only, taken part-time across six semesters at 36 credits. MCPHS designed the load around people who intend to keep practising rather than around finishing quickly, and the six-semester shape means a predictable two-course rhythm rather than a heavy first year. Miss a deadline and the next start is half a year away.
Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) · Los Alamitos, CA · Private
The loosest calendar on the site: eight-week sessions with six start dates a year. If a busy quarter at work swallows a term, you are back in within weeks rather than months, which is worth more to most working clinicians than a few hundred dollars a credit.
Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) · West Lafayette, IN · Public
Purdue Global states the thing most schools leave you to infer: every course is completed online with no residency requirement at all. Multiple start dates run through the year, and the published timeline assumes you enrol continuously, so the calendar rewards steady progress rather than stop-start study. The other schedule lever is transfer credit, up to 28 elective credits from your master's, which shortens the degree itself rather than just rearranging it.
Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) · Longmeadow, MA · Private
Two intakes a year, January and September, taught 100% online in a deliberately small and interactive cohort. That is a tighter calendar than the six-start programmes here, and the trade is depth of choice: 48 credits across 16 courses with 14 concentration tracks behind them, finishable in as little as two years. If a January or September start fits, the range of specialisms is unmatched on this list.
Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) · Philadelphia, PA · Private
Jefferson's health professions DHSc runs 43 credits over three to four years, fully online, out of a college whose programmes are built for working clinicians. The window is wide enough that the pace is largely yours, and the elective concentrations, integrative nutrition, digital and telehealth, and mind-body medicine, are the reason to pick it over a faster general degree.
Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) · Lynchburg, VA · Private
Eight-week courses with full-semester sub-terms also available each semester, so you can run fast or slow inside the same programme without transferring. At 60 credit hours this is the second longest degree here, but the effective length depends far more on what you bring than on the calendar: Liberty transfers in up to half the degree total, and you can apply while still within six credit hours of finishing your master's.
Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) · Hickory, NC · Private
Forty-eight credit hours online, ending in an applied research project rather than a dissertation, with a master's and a 3.0 to get in. The schedule needs a question put to it before you count on it: Lenoir-Rhyne describes the format as pairing online learning with the engagement of a traditional residential experience, without saying what that involves. Ask whether that means synchronous sessions or travel.
Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) · Boston, MA · Private
Two entry points, summer or fall, across five semesters and 20 months, with a weekly live class session on top of the asynchronous work. MGH Institute recommends attending but says students can succeed without, which is a franker account of a synchronous element than most schools give. There is one on-site visit at the very end, timed to commencement, so the travel is a single known date rather than a recurring cost.
Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) · Philadelphia, PA · Private
A three to five year window, the widest published on this page, out of the College of Nursing and Health Professions. Drexel also lists this degree at more than one address including a separate online campus, and the versions do not obviously describe the same offering. Before you compare the schedule with anything else here, establish which one you would be enrolled in and what its term structure actually is.
Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) · Glenside, PA · Private
Arcadia runs asynchronous coursework with synchronous advising touchpoints, which is a more precise description of the format than most schools give and worth having. You study on your own clock, but there are scheduled conversations with faculty rather than a purely self-directed slog. Concentration coursework shapes the path within that. Arcadia publishes less about start dates and term length than its rivals, so get the calendar from admissions.
Doctor of Health Science (D.H.Sc.) · Fort Lauderdale, FL · Private
Four starts a year on twelve-week terms, and Nova publishes the pace both ways rather than quoting one number: one course a term takes about three and a half years, two courses brings it in at just over two, with seven years as the outer limit. The asterisk is the one-week institute, which is attended twice across the degree, so this is not a programme you finish without travelling.
Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) · Stockton, CA · Private
Delivered online through the School of Health Sciences, with six credits a term counting as a full-time load, so the pace is genuinely part-time by design. Up to nine units of advanced placement credit can come in if you have relevant graduate coursework. Pacific publishes little about term structure or start dates, and its real gate is entry rather than calendar: it wants a master's or doctorate from an accredited clinical health science programme.
Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) · Buies Creek, NC · Private
Accelerated eight-week terms across 54 credit hours and three years, entirely online. Short terms make a long degree feel like a series of sprints rather than one march, which suits people who work better to near deadlines. Campbell answers the campus question outright rather than by omission: no, the DHSc is a 100% online programme. Entry is a single fall intake with applications closing in mid-July.
Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) · Bridgeport, CT · Private
Three start dates a year, spring, fall and summer, with all coursework delivered online and just over three years published to finish. The schedule is conventional rather than clever, and the thing that actually governs your timeline here is the dissertation rather than the coursework: Bridgeport is the only fully online programme on this page ending in a full dissertation with a committee, and that is the part that runs long.
Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) · West Haven, CT · Private
Online at 45 credit hours if you already hold a master's, but the calendar has a fixed point in it: a required two-day on-campus residency in late August at the start of the program. Book the travel before you count this as a remote degree.
Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) · Kirksville, MO · Private
Four start dates a year attached to the longest degree on this site, 70 credit hours over three to four years, which makes the frequent entry points more useful than they look: you are committing to several years and can begin in any quarter. Four concentrations, and the specialty tracks are also sold as standalone 12-credit certificates, so you can start smaller and roll the credits into the full degree later.
Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) · Indianapolis, IN · Private
Three years, front-loaded at 21 credit hours in year one, then 15, then a final 3 while the dissertation finishes. That opening year is heavier than anything else on this page asks for and it lands before you have found your rhythm. There is also a required on-campus Dissertation Prep Session in the middle of year two, so the online label has a fixed point in it.
Doctor of Health Science in Population Health Leadership (DHSc) · Philadelphia, PA · Private
Read the format on this one before anything else. Jefferson describes it as hybrid, online and on campus, and the requirements include two in-person residencies in every year of the three-year programme. That is six trips, and they are where the faculty mentoring and dissertation development happen rather than an optional extra. Everything else is asynchronous online in a small cohort.
1 of the verified programs are campus-based rather than online, and they are
listed separately on the on-campus DHSc ranking. Two of them
are public universities with the lowest published tuition on the site, so if you can get to a
campus, that page is worth reading before you settle on a remote program.
How These Online DHSc Degree Programs Were Ranked
The same seven factors used everywhere on this site, published in full on the
methodology page. Ranks on this page are drawn from the scores in
the full DHSc ranking, so a program's position here reflects how it
compares to every program, not only the online ones.
Frequently Asked Questions About Online DHSc Degree Programs
Can you earn a DHSc entirely online?
Yes, at 17 of the 22 online programs listed here. The other 5 are delivered online but require you on campus at some point: MGH Institute, Nova Southeastern, New Haven, UIndy and Jefferson (Population Health). Check the format line on each card before comparing prices, because none of that travel appears in a tuition figure.
Are online DHSc programs respected?
Online delivery is the norm for this degree rather than a discount version of it. The DHSc exists for working clinicians and administrators, so the programs are built around people who cannot stop working, and that includes programs at long-established universities. What matters far more to how the degree is received is the university behind it and what you did with the capstone.
What is the shortest online DHSc program?
Among the online programs here, the fewest published credits is 35 and the most is 70. Credits are the better comparison than advertised years, because a program that quotes a fast timeline is usually assuming you take more courses at once than a working schedule allows.
Do online DHSc programs require the GRE?
Not generally. Touro states outright that no GRE or GMAT is required. What these programs screen on instead is your master's degree and your GPA, and the published floors vary widely, from ATSU's 2.5 to Touro's 3.4.
